That's all! Thanks but the reg key mentioned is the same as I mentioned and doesn't work anymore in Windows 10, this is Domain for s of computers so it needs to be automated so your second option wont work im afraid.. If you set your admin account to show hidden files and you set your standard user accounts not to, you could simply right click the folder and tick Hidden.
Then they wouldn't see it on start but admins would. However, without putting more policies in place, the standard user "could" go under folder options and tick show hidden files and folders to see it again.
Hi Guys, dont really want to be moving anything away from the default, we have admins at the school which are notthe "brightest", would prefer to just have the folder not there, its madness that there isnt something built in like there used to be. Nothing works on the latest builds. The best one is the just change the permissions, the folder is still in the start menu but it is empty, I dont think there is anything official just yet ie GPOS, or at least a working reg key.
I have found doing this breaks Administrator Tools in via control panel. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. I've got a vbs script that I have set up as a logon script to unpin those icons, since Microsoft decided that we couldn't dictate what icons get pinned or not through policy. Since the author's original website where I found the script is now gone, I'll post the code I use here in its entirety.
I can verify that it works in server r2 and server r2. Edit: Managment tools are under Features i believe, maybe even powershell. You could simply disallow powershell.
Obviously, this doesn't unpin it directly from the taskbar, but if I remember right, Windows offers to remove it if the application is blocked via GPO. System Tools You could also publish RemoteApps perhaps, depending on your needs and never provide them a full desktop, just the applications they need.
It's pretty slick. Rob Dunn - I thought about simply disallowing powershell, and if that's what it takes then that's what I'll end up doing, but I'd prefer that they not even have the option to click on it to begin with.
As for the Group Policy Preferences - I've checked that out and I don't see an option to hide the system tools folder; there's an option to remove Administrative Tools but I don't see anything regarding the System Tools folder. Aside from a handful of people who have desktops everyone connects to their session with Wyse Thin Clients. I can't answer.. I'm a licensing dunce and prefer to leave that in the hands of those that pay the bills.
Although as far as I'm aware, if you are properly licensed to serve remote desktops, you are equally as licensed to serve RemtoeApps. At least with server RDS collections. Thanks a million. Wednesday, June 1, AM. Voldar has the correct answer here. Thursday, June 23, PM. This works great, except it also removes the Administrative Tools from the server when I log into the server console. Is there anyway to make an exception so if the 'administrator' logs in, the GPP isn't enforced?
Proposed as answer by nicolanew Friday, April 11, PM. Friday, August 12, PM. Monday, August 15, PM. I did look at the registry and admx files to see how the similar 'Recorded TV' is handled.
From there I came up with: 1. Proposed as answer by scdl Thursday, May 31, PM. Monday, August 29, PM. Thanks a Lot! Tuesday, October 11, PM. Voldar's solution does not work here. I can think of 2 things that might cause this: 1 Our terminal server is dutch.
Thursday, November 3, AM. That's did the trick. Note that GPP is only available on domain level, not on local machine Wednesday, November 9, PM. Tested with user login and works. No need to play with GPO or Registry. Saturday, January 21, PM. Don't even need to do that. I don't like using explicit "deny" policies unless absoulutely necessary because too much can go wrong. Monday, April 16, PM. I just removed inheritance and then removed all permissions for Everyone and Users.
That way your admins still can access it, but any other RDS session user won't see any shortcuts for Admin Tools in the Start Menu anymore. Friday, June 1, PM. Great quick fix, thanks! Monday, June 18, PM. Perfect fix bvjens31 thanks!!! Monday, June 25, PM.
Rodrigues 0. Wednesday, June 27, PM. Everything built-in in the GPO and no script no powershell no registry editor easy to manage. Please try this work around. To hide to ordinary users the Administrative Tools in the startup and All program 1. Click "Preferences" then " Control Panel and Settings" 3.
