They are guilty of pirating those 5 licenses. Widgets, Inc actually has NO downgrade rights, as they don't actually own the license installed on the 5 Win7 machines. Pirate much, Mike? Penalties for this are HUGE. It's possible they simply made a mistake. Widgets, Inc is still on the hook for the cost of their volume license. Whether it was a mistake or intentional, these guys have no idea what they're doing. Widgets, Inc doesn't need that kind of headache.
Purchase a volume license for Windows 7 Professional in Widgets, Inc's name. We tried 2 more XP keys which we had but even those keys were not accepted. On informing the above scenario to microsoft call centre, we were asked to give the windows 7 license key and in return they gave us another key to downgrade to XP.
They also informed us that every time we will have to call Microsoft call centre for this. But today while we tried to continue this process, the call centre executives informed that the windows 7 license key which we have is not a OEM version but a retail version and hence it can not be downgraded.
